5/19/25 - 5/23/25

Reading:  Our vocabulary, reading, and writing will revolve around texts and videos about people settling in the West, and our essential question will be "What character traits were needed in people who settled the West?"  We will wrap up our work with a story called The Celestials' Railroad.  Then we'll study a video on homesteading.  Lastly, we'll read A Pioneer Sampler The Daily Life of a Pioneer Family in 1840.

Science:  Our last science topic of the year is called Stars and Their Patterns and will wrap up with a STEM challenge in which students model a constellation.

Social Studies:  Chapter 6, Life in the English Colonies, is our current focus.  We'll move into Chapter 7 "The Fight for a Continent" if time allows.

Math:  We will definitely wrap up Module 3 this week.  Our last module of Unit 4 is all about using easier multiplication problems to solve harder division problems.  We will move through this module with the intention of testing Unit 4 before the end of the year.  However, if math gets canceled a few times, which is very common towards the end of the year, we may not be able to test before we run out of time.
