11/3/25 - 11/7/25

SEL:  In November, we will use our SEL time to practice gratitude.

Reading:  We have just scratched the surface of our explanatory writing unit.  The students will be working on their own five-paragraph explanatory essays, a type of writing that explains a topic to an audience by sharing knowledge and ideas.  We will use this writing to work through the steps in the writing process.

Science:  We will begin to wrap up our "Earth's Pattern and Movement" module with a STEM project.  The students will have to design a model to show their understanding of either the changes in the length and direction of shadows, the cycle of a day and night, moon phases, or seasonal changes.

Social Studies:  Chapter 5 is called "The Struggle to Found Colonies."  The first lesson is about the colony of Jamestown

Math:  Unit 3 is all about unit rates and percentages.  There will be 15-17 lessons in this unit, and the quiz will occur after the 8th lesson.  Click here to learn more about this new unit.

SEL:  October is National Bullying Prevention Month.  This will guide most of our SEL discussions this week.

Science:  Last week, we took some time out of our science schedule to work on a STEM challenge with Mrs. Gemmell.  We will resume Lesson 2 in science this week.  Remember, our essential question is "How does Earth move through space?"

Social Studies:  Chapter 5 is called "The Struggle to Found Colonies."

Math:  We are flying through Unit 2!  There are only 15 lessons in this unit, which means we are quickly approaching our Unit 2 test.  Stay tuned to the leaner assignment notebooks for the exact test date.  Check out this link to learn more about our ratios unit.

SEL:  October is National Bullying Prevention Month.  This will guide most of our SEL discussions this week.

Reading:  We need just a few more days to finish our work with Captain Arsenio Adventures and (Mis)Adventures in Flight to help us practice reading strategies and our RACES paragraph response writings.  Don't forget, Into Reading has an online component.  Students can reread our stories and practice vocabulary under the "Assignments" tab in Into Reading.

Science:  Our Lesson 2 essential question is "How does Earth move through space?"

Social Studies:  Chapter 4, Lesson 3 is all about Life in New Spain.

Math:  Unit 2 is called "Introducing Ratios."  Check out this link to learn more about our new math unit.  Our Sub-Unit Quiz on ratios will be after Lesson 6.  Then our next sub-unit will be a refresher on common factors and multiples.

10/6/25 - 10/10/25

SEL:  We will spend time talking about goal setting and learner characteristics.  Successful students are innovative, collaborative, effective communicators, self-directed, empathetic, critical thinkers, and not afraid to take risks.

Reading:  Our next story, Captain Arsenio Adventures and (Mis)Adventures in Flight, is a humorous way to help us practice reading strategies, learn vocabulary, answer comprehension questions, and practice our RACES paragraph response writings before tackling some grammar lessons.  Don't forget, Into Reading has an online component.  Students can reread our stories and practice vocabulary under the "Assignments" tab in Into Reading.

Science:  We are moving right along with Earth's Patterns and Movement.

Social Studies:  Chapter 4, Lesson 3 is all about Life in New Spain.

Math:  Unit 2 is called "Introducing Ratios."  Check out this link to learn more about our new math unit.
